What Third-Party Herb Testing Covers (and Why It Matters for Your Import)
SO₂, pesticides, heavy metals, moisture — four tests worth requesting for any herbal shipment. Here is what each one means for customs clearance and product safety.
Sulfur dioxide (SO₂). Used illegally by some processors to bleach and preserve herbs. Third-party testing can be arranged to keep SO₂ below 100 mg/kg — far under the Chinese Pharmacopoeia limit — so your import is not rejected at customs.
Pesticide residues. Many destination markets enforce maximum residue limits (MRLs) on imported herbs. We can arrange testing against destination-market limits so your goods clear smoothly, without surprise inspections or detentions.
Heavy metals. Lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury can be tested on request. These accumulate in the soil and can be absorbed by plants, which is why origin and growing practice matter.
Moisture and purity. Controlled drying keeps moisture within export standards, preventing mold and weight loss in transit. Foreign matter is removed during sorting.
Third-party testing is available on request, with the report provided with your shipment. Tell us your destination market and we will confirm which tests and limits apply — seeing the numbers is the fastest way to judge a supplier.
