Lunar New Year Hot Pot Essentials: What Food Importers Stock in Q4
Wood ear, shiitake, yuba and goji berries move in waves every year before the Lunar New Year. Here is the timing, the products, and the risks importers plan for.
September to November is the buying window. Restaurants and hot pot chains place their holiday orders early, and importers who confirm stock in Q4 secure better prices and shipping slots before the December rush.
The core hot pot basket: dried wood ear for texture, shiitake for broth, yuba and dried beancurd skin as protein options, and goji berries for the festive soup. These five move together as a set every holiday season.
Watch the container calendar. December and January are peak export months across Asia. Book 4–6 weeks out, confirm the vessel, and arrange your phytosanitary certificate together with any testing you require so customs is not a surprise.
Price with margin for volatility. Holiday demand plus limited shipping capacity pushes FOB prices up in Q4. Lock prices early, or agree a price-adjustment clause with your supplier.
For first-time orders, start with a trial container. Mix the five core items at 1 MT total to test the market, then scale up for the next cycle. Our sales team can split a container across the full basket.
